This week, Barry and Graham from modernlove. gave us their precious time to talk about everything the band have been doing this year, and what their plans are for next year.
—
Your latest single ‘Shades of Blue’ has been out for just over a week now, how has the reception been?
Barry: It has been really good. We aim to release new music regular as we have so much material
—
The bands third EP ‘Nightlife’ was released back in March, when can fans expect a new EP?
Barry: We have a few more singles to release before the EP is released, which will be before the end of the year.
—
How different was the writing process for this years released, compared to your previous EP’s?
Barry: Quite different, as the previous EP’s were written during lockdown
—
Your UK tour is coming up this November, and Manchester has already sold out, how excited are you?
Barry: We love playing the UK, and with a sold out show we are looking forward to it more
Graham: We played YES in Manchester before, so with an upgraded room it’s exciting.
—
You also have a tour in Europe coming up, how different is the crowd from the UK?
Barry: Europe always seem more up for it from the off, whereas the UK you have to win them over. But with shows selling out I think it will be different this time
Graham: The shows in Germany we did earlier this year were crazy.
—
You recently played some festivals this year, how was the experience playing on the bigger stages?
Barry: When we played Tramlines, Truck and Latitude they were some of the biggest crowds we have played to. That is always a good feeling.
Graham: I am always a bit unsure of festivals as there is so many other stages and acts on, you don’t know what crowd you are going to receive. But after this year, I have warmed to the idea a lot more
—
Do you get much spare time on tour to explore?
Barry: We usually play a show, stay the night and drive to the next city the following day. So it doesn’t give us much spare time but if we have a day off then it does give us that opportunity.

Are there any plans to play shows back in Ireland?
Barry: We love playing Dublin, it feels like a homecoming, but we are playing our first official hometown show in years which will be really fun and we’ll feel like teenagers again.
With your upcoming world tour and an EP on the way, what is the plan for 2024?
Barry: We will be going into the album territory, and the shows we are always expanding so hopefully next year some bigger rooms.
Graham: Even writing the EP’s there is a lot of songs that we write that we feel that they would be an album song. But I feel like working with different producers for different songs will benefit the album for sure.
—
Now for the all-important question, if you had to choose one ideal dish for your rider, what would it be?
Graham: When I was in America all I was craving was a big Irish stew, dreaming of that every night.
Barry: The whiskey is kind of perfect. But no like Graham said just proper hearty food that you miss when you are on tour.
—
Any final words?
Barry: We have an open stage fan club that we have started recently, which gives you a behind the scenes of what we are up to. So it would be great if people could sign up to it!
You can access that HERE.
