For more than six years, guitarist and leader for The Enemy TOM CLARKE has been doing solo tours throughout the UK. Following their 2016 farewell tour, Tom returned to the road in 2017 to commemorate ten years since the release of their #1 album, ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns’. Additional tours took place in 2018 and 2021. This led to rumours that the group may reunite at some point, and in 2022, those rumours came true with a massive UK tour. Following a busy summer spent playing at numerous festivals; Tom made the decision to hit the road once more in order to celebrate the start of 2024 in style.
There is always an abundance of people in Leeds on Friday nights, and the Brudenell Social Club was no exception. A sold-out crowd were ready for a night full of hits in a more stripped back setting.
The lights dimmed and the crowd roared as Tom Clarke and his band made their way on to the compact stage. Kicking off with the aggressive ‘Aggro‘, it got the whole room bouncing just as if it was The Enemy playing a festival main stage. The band swiftly moved on to ‘Away from Here‘ and the thunderous ‘Pressure‘ followed after.
‘LEEDS, LEEDS, LEEDS’ was chanted by the audience as Tom expressed his reverence for the venue and mentioned that it is the one spot he always looks forward to performing at.
Following a quick welcome to Yorkshire, everyone in the room gave the crowd’s beloved song, ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns’, the true reception it always deserves. Three other songs from his solo repertoire, ‘She Don’t Leave the Lights On‘, ‘Roy’s Life‘ and the previously unheard song ‘Flowers‘ were all well-received by the audience.
In typical fashion, ‘Happy Birthday Jane‘ and ‘This Song Is About You‘ get the best out of any crowd. Even in a more intimate acoustic performance, the latter remains one of the best outros from a British rock band this side of the millennium that will get anyone and everyone singing along.
