In addition to releasing their highly anticipated third album ‘Death Is Nothing to Us,’ Boston’s FIDDLEHEAD announced that they would be returning to the UK to perform fresh material and fan favourites from their extensive repertoire, with a midweek show in Nottingham thrown into the mix.
Once the band made their way onto the stage, they launched into the set with the opening song from their new album ‘The Deathlife’, immediately setting the tone for their brief but energetic performance with an upbeat opener that featured frontman Patrick Flynn swaying back and forth with the mic stand.
Their most recent single ‘Sleepyhead’ briefly introduces some serenity before bursting into the band’s trademark strong intensity and showcasing their true musical range. ‘Grief Motif‘ perfectly echoed this section of the set as FIDDLEHEAD wasted no time in continuing into the night.
This is when the enthusiastic Nottingham audience started to become more involved as ‘The Years‘ made it on to the setlist. There was a lot of head bobbing going on at the back, and those in front were yelling the lyrics back to Pat throughout. ‘Million Times‘ was treated in the same way, demonstrating the genuine affection that their 2021 album ‘Between the Riches‘ has.
After FIDDLEHEAD‘s powerful performance of ‘Lay Low‘, they exited the stage. Due to its abrupt termination, it became a recurring motif across the room as individuals started checking the time on their phones and watches. The band made a swift comeback to close the show with crowd favourite ‘Heart to Heart’, giving it one final push for a triumphant transatlantic voyage.
