After wrapping up his greatest and most prosperous year to date, Newcastle-born ANDREW CUSHIN intends to challenge 2024 head-on. He shows no signs of slowing down just yet, and despite the fact that his largest hometown show is coming up soon, Andrew still enjoys an intimate setting. In keeping with that custom, he made a very welcome return to Mexborough to perform a stripped back acoustic set in front of a yet another sold out crowd.
Even though his band wasn’t there that night, it was evident as the young Geordie took the stage that he wasn’t alone. Opening the set with the heavenly ‘Wor Flags‘, the audience sung along to the “la-la-la’s” as loud as they possible could, creating the perfect St. James’ atmosphere—which is undoubtedly the ultimate aim.
The stunning song ‘Dream for a Moment‘ made an early appearance in the set, with the emotion ‘It’s Coming Round Again‘ following. With its slower tempo, the album title track [‘Waiting for the Rain‘] was as near to the original as it got, leaving the Mexborough crowd in complete amazement that such a young man could have such a strong voice.
Although the record is still relatively new, ANDREW has already planned his next move. He performed a selection of brand-new songs, and the crowd enthusiastically embraced these future favourites, exactly as he had intended.
The back end of the set included a host of his more well known anthems, with ‘You Don’t Belong‘, ‘4.5%‘ and ‘Where’s My Family Gone‘ all getting the capacity crowd singing along, before concluding the evening with the unreleased song ‘Standing By My Side‘ to cap off his well-received return to Mexborough and offer both new and returning fans a taste of what’s still to come.
