Earlestown’s THE K’S opted to celebrate their debut record with a series of small-scale acoustic gigs, only weeks before it was official unveiling. It had only been a few months since their previous visit, but the band made a surprise return to Steel City, wowing the crowd with a variety of fan favourites and future crowd pleasers.
The brief but exquisite show differed greatly from the typical acoustic set that bands play. The only thing that was different about this set of shows was that frontman Jamie Boyle donned an acoustic guitar instead of his typical tool of choice, but other than that, THE K’S delivered their usual energetic performance that many adore.
To the joy of those in the audience, the band began with the lively crowd-pleasing song ‘Chancer‘. This was swiftly followed by a number of songs from the new album, such as ‘Heart On My Sleeve‘, ‘Circles‘, and ‘Lights Go Down‘. Based off of the reaction and excitement of the crowd on the night, their most recent single, ‘Black and Blue‘, went down a huge storm.
Even with the acoustic feel, guitarist Ryan Breslin continues to wow audiences with a plethora of face-melting guitar solos that blend in well with the band’s more intimate compositions. The room was filled with Yorkshire chants in between songs, but as soon as ‘Hometown‘ started to get everyone moving, the chants rapidly transformed into cheers.

The penultimate song came in the form of ‘Sarajevo’ and it still remains a festival main stage worthy hit that the band will soon make a reality this summer. For the time being, though, it works perfectly in the much smaller settings to get people singing along. As the room filled with lights to bid the Earlestown four farewell, it was time to wrap off their brief but magnificent show in Sheffield with the song that most closely resembled its original sound: ‘Valley One‘. The band retired for the evening, and gave fans much to look forward to for the rest of 2024.
