Sheffield based quartet JETSKI have swiftly established themselves as a formidable force.. One of the many decisions made by the four boys collectively was to book their biggest headline show, at the venerable Leadmill in the heart of the Steel City. The band takes great pride in being an entirely independent band, making all of their decisions in-house.
Following their successful headline show in Leeds, where Jetski performed that evening, another Yorkshire group BEAUTY SCHOOL was granted a support slot for the evening. As the sextet entered the stage, the already packed audience erupted in applause, and it became evident that many of the attendees were already familiar with the band. With guitarist Jordan Hill serving as the focal point among the six musicians and vocalist Joe Cabrera constantly beaming during a performance, BEAUTY SCHOOL began their set in usual high-energy fashion.
The band performed a number of songs from their debut album ‘Happiness’, including the singles ‘Oak‘ and ‘Monster‘, but ‘Take It Slow‘ was the one that got the band’s already-large turn out to start belting out this moving tune. ‘Pawn Shop Jewels‘ came as the last song of the set and serves as a fantastic way to end their show for the Sheffield crowd, who sang along with vocalist Joe’s encouragement to finish the song on spectacular fashion.
Finally, the main event began as local boys JETSKI entered to a thunderous cheer from across the floor. ‘Joey and Zoe‘ opened the show and immediately turned the crowd lively. Their second EP ‘The Four Before‘ hosts tracks ‘Vanborghini‘ and ‘S66‘, which have already become mainstays in any JETSKI set, and encouraged a moshpit to emerge in the middle of the room. The foursome wasted no time in tearing through their headline performance.
Even with two EPs and a few singles under their belt, there was still a lot of material to get through. ‘Totem‘ encouraged crowd surfers to leap over the barrier early in the set, while ‘Valentine‘ made its live premiere. Throughout the show, all four members were grinning as frontman and guitarist Charles Fitzgerald introduced them one by one, and were all greeted by a huge round of applause. ‘Jacks Song‘ and ‘Jeans‘ received the same enthusiastic reception as the other songs during the performance, with ‘Backstep‘ getting the loudest ovation thus far.
Charles took the opportunity to thank everyone for their support, emphasising that as an independent band, they are only able to book shows and go on tours thanks to the income obtained by their fans. As a result of the success of the shows, an album announcement was made and to no surprise, received a huge cheer throughout the room. JETSKI bowed out with ‘Curbside’ closing out the set, but soon returned to conclude the evening with their debut track ‘Easy Peeler’ to round off their biggest homecoming so far, and sets the bar for their next feat in the future.
