Commemorating 20 years since their formation last year, BUSTED made a quick return to the stage for a series of outdoor summer performances. Matt, Charlie, and James ensured their show was a hit-filled night in Leeds’ Millennium Square, and they brought some pals along for the ride.
Pop-rock group SCOUTING FOR GIRLS sprang to prominence in the charts in 2007 and have since established themselves as mainstays of the festival and outdoor concert scene. They have since released six further albums and continued to travel the nation to thrill both new and old fans, after their #1 first album sold over a million copies. SFG didn’t waste any time getting the party started with a crowd favourite, ‘Heartbeat‘ as soon as they made their way on to the stage. The Leeds crowd was just as excited about SFG as they were about the main act, and songs like ‘This Ain’t A Love Song‘ and ‘Elvis Isn’t Dead‘ sparked raucous applause from across the square. However, it was the conclusion of ‘She’s So Lovely‘ that put an explosive cap on the bands performance, and fans won’t have to wait long for their next appearance on stage later in 2024.
When night fell and the stage lights dimmed, BUSTED emerged to a thunderous roar from the other side of the plaza. Each member took in their surroundings before leaping in to play ‘Air Hostess‘. The group is obviously still feeling youthful because of the crowd’s continued support, as seen by the entire venue singing along just as they would have in 2003. The trio ensured they squeezed as many hits into their set, with; ‘Loser Kid‘ and the poignant ‘Meet You There‘ keeping the energy high throughout.
The venue quickly got lively again with BUSTED‘s first #1 single ‘You Said No‘. had the place bouncing. Earlier in the week, the men’s national football team advanced in to the final of the European Championships for a second time, and bassist Matt Willis made sure to kick off the ‘It’s Coming Home‘ chants, much to Charlie and James’s amusement. The trio encouraged the crowd to light up the area with their phone torches while they sang ‘Sleeping With The Light On‘, showcasing a breathtakingly beautiful sea of white dots across the square. Normal business was then resumed with a cover of Hanson’s ‘Mmmbop‘. Followed by announcement that they were working on a new album, and keeping things fresh, their latest single ‘Good One‘ came next.
As the set neared its conclusion, fan favourites ‘What I Go To School For‘ picked up the tempo once more. Matt Willis maintained the comedic tone by singing the iconic Thunderbirds theme tune, which was the perfect preface to their song ‘Thunderbirds Are Go‘. BUSTED rounded off their return to Yorkshire in style with ‘Crashed the Wedding’ and the beloved ‘Year 3000‘ to get the whole place singing along one final time.
