We pitched some questions to southern alt-rocker WILLY COBB leading up to the release of his ‘Unplugged EP’. From touring with Foo Fighters’ Chris Shiflett, to what he has planned for 2025, see what Willy had to say below.

1. What has the reception been like for ‘Boy Toy’ so far?

Willy: The reception to “Boy Toy” has been good so far. I have had a few people tell me I’m copying ‘Creep’ by Radiohead, which is kinda funny because Radiohead ripped Creep off and lost a battle with The Hollies! So that was kinda weird, but other than that it’s been a really good reception so far!

2. Has the writing structure changed for the single compared to previous tracks?

Willy: I feel like the writing structure has kind of stayed the same. I start with finding chords first and then I move onto the lyrics. “Boy Toy” was written around the same time as my other songs that came out so far, so really nothing much has really changed.

3. Tell us about the Unplugged EP coming out on the 22nd November

Willy: The “Unplugged” EP, I’m really excited for. It’s got a few new songs on it, a few old songs. It’s just really me. I wanted to get a more intimate version of those songs out there. There’s a lot of shows that I have to play just acoustic. It always starts with just me and my acoustic guitar. This is how the sound when I finish them in my room. I wanted to give that to the people and show a bit more of a vulnerable side to me and these songs.

4. Can fans expect to see a new EP or even an album next year?

Willy: I would love to have an album out next year, but we shall see! There’s definitely new music coming, I can tell you that much. I’m definitely hoping to have a bit more Willy out there in the world for y’all.

5. What was it like touring with Chris Shiflett?

Willy: Honestly, touring with Chris Shiflett was so cool. I was worried when I got out there – I mean he’s in the Foo Fighters, I don’t want to seem like that weird kid…! He made it a point every single night, him and his whole band, they would come into my dressing room and tell me good luck and glad you’re out here. It’s amazing to see how a big artist like that can be so cool and care about the little guys. They understand, they’ve all been there. I just really appreciate Chris for giving me the opportunity and being so nice to me out there.

6. Southern/country music has seen a huge rise across the world, what are your thoughts that artists like Beyonce and Post Malone are now involved with the genre?

Willy: I think it’s great. I feel like Country music right now is reimagining itself, which it does every few years. I’m glad to see all these other artists getting popular. I remember when people would be all negative on it and  I’m glad to see that change, and see it reshaping into a bigger audience.

7. What are your aspirations for 2025?

Willy: My aspirations for 2025 right now are to hopefully get some more tour dates, I need to get out there! I feel that’s the best way I can write songs. By being out there and living music, not just sitting at home. I like to write my songs on the road. That’s where I’m most inspired, because my head’s in the space of doing music. So I hopefully will do more tours and also get an album out there!
