After securing his highest charting feat with ‘One Man Band’ last summer, Merseyside man MILES KANE headed out on an intimate UK tour to give fans the up close and personal experience before the end of the year, with a sold out performance in Leeds amongst the dates.
The capacity crowd welcomes MILES with a huge roar as he and his drummer made their way on to the stage, one that is much smaller than he is now accustomed to. Opening his set with the fitting title ‘One Man Band’, it set up a set filled with hits from four of his albums, in a stripped back style but still packed a punch nonetheless. The guitar waling ‘Rearrange’ always goes down a treat at any one of his shows, and that was no difference in Leeds. The crowd not only joined in for the chorus, but also the guitar tone, showing that this is a clear favourite across his fan base. The forceful ‘Coup de Grace’ was greeted with a thunderous roar, while the funky ‘Better than That’ allowed the crowd to let loose and dance around with what space was available.
Whether it is a festival main stage performance, or a tiny club show, MILES gives his all no matter what, but it was time to take things down a notch. Two unexpected tracks received the acoustic treatment, both from his days in THE LAST SHADOW PUPPETS. ‘Standing Next to Me’ was first, and as the first line was sung, the cheers around the room were deafening, with ‘Aviation’ following to keep up the positive atmosphere. Returning to his solo material, ‘Colour of the Trap’ continued the crowd’s joint effort into the latter stage of the set.
KANE’s second record’s title track ‘Don’t Forget Who You Are’ never fails to get the place singing along for the “la la la” portion, whilst the aggressive ‘Inhaler’ picked up the pace once again. MILES concluded his ‘One Man Band’ show in typical fashion, as ‘Come Closer’ served as the final song on the night, and bowed out of his return to Yorkshire to an almighty cheer throughout the venue.
Could the ‘One Man Band’ era be coming to an end? Or is this only the beginning? Is it possible that some kind of reunion will take place in 2025? Time will only tell.
