There is no better way to end 2024 than with a sold-out, chest-pounding, ear-popping, hits-filled performance by THE PRODIGY, the one and only kings of electronic rock. As the band returned to the UK stages following their massive performance at Reading + Leeds Festival’s Chevron headline slot, they took their ‘Disrupta‘ tour to Bridlington to begin the short run of dates to see out the year in style.

Given that it was the middle of the coldest month of the year, the room was packed with people, creating a very humid atmosphere. People’s glasses were steaming up as they walked from the bar area into the venue, but this didn’t stop any excitement that they had, and it wasn’t long until the band made their way on to the stage and unleashed their intense opener ‘Voodoo People’. As soon as the first note was played, the audience erupted in screams, and the Pendulum Remix version of the song’s second half further enhanced the intensity and speed of the original. What an opener! The stalls were rocking from front to back, and everyone was dancing on the balcony, and it was only the first song.

Frontman Maxim yelled for all of the “Warriors” to scream louder as the blaring ‘Omen‘ swiftly followed, and his commands were promptly obeyed. The Bridlington crowd was then treated to a brand-new song titled ‘Fight!‘, this is a promising development as it indicates that the band has continued to write songs following Keith Flint’s passing and that they are working to offer the “Warriors” more to shout about. Even though the crowd were unfamiliar with the song, the energy in the room remained unabated. The tempo continued with a mash up of ‘Climbatize‘ and ‘Warriors Dance‘, followed by ‘The Day Is My Enemy‘ getting its first live performance in more than five years.

Another mash up came in the form of ‘Beyond the Deathray’ and the bands biggest hit, ‘Firestarter’. Maxim handed over the reins to the crowd for and they sung their hearts out, showing despite Flint no longer here, his spirit lives on in all of the “Warriors”. The capacity crowd were treated to an emphatic finale as ‘Invaders Must Die’ and ‘Breathe’ rounded off the bands set ahead of the looming encore. A quick return to the stage, met with huge cheers from the Bridlington audience once again, the powerful ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ had the place bouncing right from the off.

One of the things that makes THE PRODIGY so unique is the ferocity they bring to the stage, which is unrivalled across the globe. Maxim thanked the fans for their support over the years before the night ended with ‘Out of Space‘. With a new album presumably in the near future, the band is solidifying their status as one of the UK’s best product, still, after 35 years.
