Dedicated to the ones he loves most, TOM MEIGHAN’s eagerly awaited second album, ‘Roadrunner’, is set for release on 24th January 2025 via Blue Rocket Records. Following on from his debut album, ‘The Reckoning‘, which peaked at #17 in the UK Album Charts, Tom further explores a journey of reflection and resonance in ‘Roadrunner‘ throughout its raw and powerful lyrics. Combining both anthemic, stadium-ready tracks with those that are more tender and touching, this album is a perfect encapsulation of Tom’s feelings of love, appreciation, and reminiscence.
The Leicester-born singer has opted for two singles for the promotional run-up to his second album: ‘White Lies‘ and ‘We Can Do It‘, both of which boast the classic strong baselines, anthemic guitar riffs, and punchy vocals found in much of his previous catalogue. Ahead of the album launch this Friday 13th September, Meighan has taken to social media to share his thoughts on ‘White Lies‘, claiming that he is “very proud of it” and that he believes it is “one of the best ones on the album“. Sequential single ‘We Can Do It‘ boasts Meighan’s distinctive sound, alongside elements of courage, resilience and love, all of which are running themes throughout the album. Due to his undeniable influence on the rock music scene over the last three decades, it makes it hard to liken the Midland-rocker’s sound to that of other artists; although, ‘Roadrunner’ is certainly peppered with influence from Primal Scream and T. Rex throughout, alongside the obvious sprinkle of old-school Kasabian. Particularly evident in both stadium-ready singles, they are the perfect duo to promote the album.
Full of resilience, reflection, and resonance, tracks ‘Silver Lining’ and ‘Better Life’ touch on the journey to recovery and acceptance, likely akin to Tom’s own experience in recent years. Consoling to many, ‘Better Life‘ dictates the struggles of anxiety and masking your true self, taking the listener on a voyage of self-acceptance and belief. Having overcome the challenges and obstacles that life has thrown at him, Meighan has made it out of the other side, more appreciative and real than ever before. Also “dedicated to [his] Wife, Vikki“, these tracks are a perfect ode to love and a truly emotional, raw and poetic representation of their relationship, proving just how strong they have become.
Boasting the Leicester-born rocker’s distinctive snarl and powerful vocals, the residual tracks of ‘Roadrunner’ hold great energy, punchy introductions, and strong guitar riffs in true ‘Meighan’ style, with honourable mentions going to ‘Exorcist‘ and ‘Headcase‘. Closing off the album with a slightly shorter rendition of the 2021 track originally released as a free download, ‘Would You Mind‘, feels like the final destination of this journey to recovery, exposing Meighan’s vulnerability, yet is full of courage and strength.
Since leaving Kasabian in 2020, Meighan’s dramatic change in circumstances has undeniably ignited his recognisable sense of appreciation present throughout the album. Whilst staying true to himself, Meighan reflects on a real and challenging journey of self-acceptance and recovery, proving that, after over 20 years in the game, he has still not lost his touch. An amalgamation of tender, touching moments and stadium-ready anthems, ‘Roadrunner‘ is perhaps the most emotional and raw record from Tom Meighan yet.
