Kicking off his 2025, legendary frontman TOM MEIGHAN returned to Mexborough to perform his RAW acoustic show to a packed audience at the Gorilla Beer Hall. Following a massive UK tour to end 2024, he has no signs of slowing down heading in to the new year. Fans were treated to a variety of Kasabian classics as well as songs from both of his solo albums.
Local act THE OUTCHARMS, who had an incredible year in 2024 also, opened up the show. It was a terrific start to the year for them as band, supporting a headliner they adore themselves. Frontman Curtis Cooper and guitarist Ross Fowler also adopted the acoustic style, making it a more appropriate addition to the line-up. This gave their tunes a new lease on life and a different take on their typical choruses. Cooper was able to perform his typical singing approach in the opening song, ‘Big Sky‘, while the sophisticated guitar was a wonderful fit. Just in time for the main act, the audience quickly became more involved with setlist staples ‘Life Gets in the Way‘ and ‘Eveline‘. The pair from Doncaster left with an enormous reception and undoubtedly a number of new fans too.
As MEIGHAN finally took the stage, the packed Mexborough crowd was filled with beer, and the Leicester man was met with a thunderous cheer. Fan favourite ‘Club Foot‘, got the show underway. To set the tone, the audience joined TOM with voices that were just as loud as the main man himself, as he donned a huge grin on his face and his arms raised high. Soon came ‘Don’t Give In‘ and ‘Rise‘, two of his solo tracks, before he resumed his powerful run of Kasabian anthems.
Both ‘Underdog‘ and ‘Days Are Forgotten‘ were positively received as expected, and the audience sang along to both songs without hesitation. The sole song from ‘Roadrunner‘ to be played on the evening was ‘Better Life‘, which was dedicated to the people he loves the most in his life. As the performance entered its final moments, another crowd pleaser was unleashed, this time ‘L.S.F.‘ which encouraged the audience to join in once more. With only a few songs remaining, TOM‘s triumphant return to Mexborough was capped off with two powerful anthems: ‘Empire‘ and ‘Fire‘. before bowing out to a huge roar that filled the room.
