South Yorkshire indie rock band THE SHERLOCKS are set to release their fifth studio album ‘Everything Must Make Sense’ on 21st February 2025. We sat down with vocalist and guitarist Kiaran Crook to talk about the album, the bands upcoming UK tour,
–
Your new album ‘Everything Must Make Sense’ is almost upon us. How excited are you to finally get it out there?
Kiaran: Buzzing mate, honestly. It is exciting every time. Five albums in is weird to us, as it doesn’t feel two minutes since the first one was released. The second album for us arguably took too long, but it wasn’t really until the third album that it seems to have clicked for us. It feels like we’re a boxer in good form at the minute.
–
Has the writing process remained the same throughout each release, or has things changed as the band has progressed?
Kiaran: To be honest, the biggest thing is the confidence you find in yourself. You only get the chance to do your debut once, we had plenty of time to do that from forming to its release seven years later. The third, fourth and fifth album, we feel like we belong in the studio, we are comfortable with it and know exactly how to deal with being in that situation now.
–
The album’s first single ‘Man on the Loose’ was released less than a year after ‘People Like Me & You’. What was the reason behind such a quick turn around in releasing new music?
Kiaran: Having that time in the calendar to just get in the studio and record new music is the main factor. I will send my demo to the lads, and complete the song in the studio. Luckily it’s paid off.
–
Your recent tour with Shed Seven was certainly a lengthy one. Have you seen a bunch of new fans come on board for the new album campaign?
Kiaran: Massively. Better than I thought. I am a massive fan of Shed Seven, and I had a feeling we would go down well every night with their fans, but it wasn’t until we got to the gigs we really got to see it. We would go straight to the merch desk every night to meet everyone who wanted to come say hello. We came away from that tour with loads of new fans.
–
How excited are you to be playing the new songs live on your upcoming UK headline tour?
Kiaran: You can’t beat playing to your own fans. Last year was the first time we hadn’t done our own headline tour around the UK. Buzzing to get back this year with a bunch of new tunes which are sounding class in the practise room. We can’t wait to play them live.
–
Are you expecting the singles to go down well with the crowd during the UK tour, or are there some hidden gems on the album that will surprise the fans?
Kiaran: A bit of both to be fair. We haven’t played ‘Bones’ yet, but it is going to sound good live. There are some good tunes on there that if we don’t get to play live, I will be gutted about. The last song in the album ‘Waiting for the Rain’ is one of the more evil, moody, rockier songs on the albums. There are alot of guitar driven tunes on the album.

As part of your UK tour, you have announced 14 different support acts to join you. How important is it to give these smaller up and coming bands the opportunity to play on a big stage in front of a big crowd.
Kiaran: It is massive honestly. I can remember us getting them slots and it meant the world to us. We supported The Enemy when I was still in secondary school. Brandon (drummer) rang me and we had to travel up to Glasgow that afternoon for the show as it was such a last minute decision. It was our first taste of playing a stage that was much bigger than we really deserved to, and off the back of that, The Enemy invited us back to play with them a few more times. It is important to give bands these opportunities, it is encouraging and when you are in a band at that stage it is surprising how much it does for you.
–
Despite there being no hometown show on this tour, you have brought in local names The Outcharms and The Denabys to join you on some of the dates. Do you feel they will have more of a privilege to play with a bigger band that is from the same area as themselves?
Kiaran: 100%. It’s nice for us to be able to do that. The beauty about our band is that we are independent. I think when people see that word online they don’t really truly know the extent of how independent we are. There is me, Brandon (drums) Alex (guitar) and Trent (bass), our manager, which is mine and Brandon’s Dad, and the fans, that is it. The bands that are local to us, we have no problem with putting them on. We have the luxury of having our own input on who plays with us.
–
Last summer you played your biggest hometown headline show at Sheffield Don Valley Bowl. Do you have your eyes set on the next big event already?
Kiaran: We’ve got loads of plans, it is just timing and logistics. By the time it came to playing Don Valley, it felt right. We didn’t want to continue playing Sheffield O2 Academy on every tour, even though it is a great venue and an honour to play that stage, we wanted to make the hometown show more special. We had a strong line-up for that show, and it sets up the future for going on to the next big event.
–
Do you have any other plans for 2025 that you can tease?
Kiaran: It will either be another support slot tour, or even abroad. We have never been to Australia as a band yet. So maybe something like that.
–
What would you like to say to your fans for their continued support over the years?
Kiaran: A massive thank you. You start a band, and you don’t plan too much. Releasing your debut album is a huge achievement. Anything after that is a bonus. It is still crazy to me that we are now on our fifth album. Thank you to everybody, even for those who have jumped on recently, we appreciate it massively and we don’t take it for granted.
–
Finally, what does The Sherlocks rider include?
Kiaran: If I could pick my rider, it would be some Guinness, some decent lager and an insane amount of water. If you want to get picky, a box of Yorkshire Tea, some ginger, that would be it.
