THE SHERLOCKS have returned for their fifth album ‘Everything Must Make Sense’ set to be released on the 21st of February.

The South Yorkshire band formed in 2010 and has since achieved three top-10 records on the UK official charts with their previous albums, ‘Live for the Moment’, ‘World I Understand’, and ‘People Like You & Me’. The band is made up of brothers Kiaran (vocals and guitar) and Brandon Cook (drums), Alex Proctor (guitar), and Trent Jackson (bass), who all present their own individual styles on their new album.

The album’s most recent single, ‘Bones,’ was released in November 2024, giving fans a further look into the album’s style. The band previously described the single as a “monster tune,” which definitely lives up to expectations. Heavy bass and an upbeat tune can be heard throughout the track, making the lyrics stick and highly catchy to any listener.

The other two singles off of the album ‘Man On The Loose’ (September 2024) and ‘Death of Me’ (May 2024) follow a similar pattern with a slightly slower tune but still keep to the heavy bass with a mix of drums and guitar throughout creating songs with life, even if they’re talking about death “Now darling, I can see / Why you’ll be the death of me”

The album opens with an upbeat drum and guitar mix presenting the overall vibe of the album within its song ‘Everything Must Make Sense’ which is the title track representing the album. It introduces the album’s overarching theme: looking back on love with past and present experiences. It instantly captivates the listeners in the energetic loop of sound, setting the grounds for the album.

How Are You Feeling’ and ‘28’ are the slower songs on the album, focusing on more sentimental topics such as home life and love, including deep bass and a drum beat to present pure emotion within both songs. The blend of fast and slow songs throughout the album helps bring it together, allowing listeners to experience a mix of emotions from different musical styles.

Fresh and inventive guitar riffs are used throughout the album and become incredibly prominent in the song ‘Bedlam Town,’ which resets the album with more upbeat and fun music. This song combines that classic ‘indie band vibe’ that is popular among many while focusing on positive relationships. The song closes with an extension of the previous riff, slowly fading to introduce the next track, ‘Tough Times Don’t Last.’

‘Times Don’t Last’ replaces the fast-paced guitar of the previous song with drums, creating the perfect blend from song to song and a smooth pathway between the album’s contents. The lyrics focus on missing a person but present it in a positive light through instruments, creating a vast tune throughout.

Better Alone’ is the second-to-last song on the album. It features a mix of slow and fast beats, using bass. This song showcases the band’s ability to make vast changes within songs to create an ear-catching listen. The band’s use of sounds, constantly switching the speed throughout the music, is a great way to keep listeners and fans intrigued.

To conclude the album, ‘Here Comes The Rain’ perfectly closes it. The song opens with a slow instrumental bass before slowly speeding up towards the middle, accompanied by a beat drop combined with a quieter guitar riff. The lyrics, “Sometimes need some space on my own,” symbolise the album’s end, leaving the listener alone.

The album transports fans into a captivating world of love and memories while presenting a beautiful combination of lyricism and instrumental creativity. With its release fast approaching, this is undoubtedly an album you won’t want to miss.
