THE SONS OF GUNS recently released their latest single ‘It’s Getting Better’, and with new music on the horizon, we pitched some questions to the band about their recent collaborations with Rick Astley, Joss Stone and what else they have planned for 2025.

What has the reception been like for ‘It’s Getting Better‘?

TSoG: The response has been great so far, thanks. We’re getting some spins on radio in the Uk and France which is ace! Our official music video, which features us doing a dad-dancing competition, is going down really well. We’ve even had people post in their own dad dancing which is brilliant.  So, we’re happy with progress and excited to see where it takes us!

Scott: It’s been really positive so far, I think the upbeat nature of the song and the video has really helped get this one off the ground. Seems everyone loves a feel good hit for the summer with a bit of dad dancing thrown in!

How does it feel to have performed with huge names like Rick Astley and Joss Stone?

TSoG: Very surreal, my main take away from it was how humble and kind they both are.

Scott: With Joss Stone we were approached by her management. She was on tour and was picking a local artist in each city. Her manager walked into a local bar looking for suggestions for groups to collaborate with, luckily mine and Dave’s cousin worked in said bar so next thing we know she’s singing on one of our songs!

Rick Astley we met in the ski resort of Verbier in Switzerland. We’d been invited to play for a friend’s event and he was a guest. We learnt “Never gonna give you up” ya know, just in case! After a few beers we had to ask if he’d get up and he was well up for it, he got in the drums after Rick Rolling everyone and stayed there for about an hour! Great drummer and such a genuinely nice man, we’ve kept in touch ever since.

Why is it important to you that all members contribute to the song writing?

TSoG: It’s because they’re all great songwriters, and I feel it’s important everyone’s ideas get heard. It’s what makes us who we are, and the sound we have.

How do you manage to combine a number of different bands who have influenced you in to just three minutes?

TSoG: It comes pretty easy, it’s an unconscious thing. We just write songs we’d like to listen to, and the influences present themselves after the song is done.

Scott: Our Songs pretty much start with a demo from David, next step is usually to get in a room together and try and develop the idea. I think generally we all come from different musical backgrounds, tastes and influences. It’s the bringing together of all of these different styles that makes it into a Sons Of Guns song. When we get something together it’s usually too long, that’s when our manager Pete comes in and trims it down!

Are there plans for new music in 2025?

Scott: Yes! We have an EP coming out on the 13th Junewhich features our three current singles plus three brand new tracks. Then in October we plan to release our full album, so there’s still a lot to come in 2025!
