In support of their fourth record ‘Cut the Cord’, Edinburgh indie-trio VISTAS embarked on a run of intimate record release shows, which saw the band perform stripped back acoustic sets inside independent record stores up and down the UK. Bringing their new songs to the stage for the first time, these downsized shows were a real treat for their dedicated fans, with a Monday afternoon slot at Nottingham’s Rough Trade amongst the shows on the tour.

With a performance taking place in Kingston just 6 hours after this one, the band wasted no time in making their way on to the stage. Greeting the crowd from the off, the band opened with the albums title track to warm things up. After each song, people from the crowd let out a little cheer alongside their applauses to ensure their reception was heard in the tiny venue. Continuing with tracks from the new record, ‘Next Year’ quickly followed as the fresh material were given a new approach with the acoustic format. Fan favourite ‘Calm’ broke up the set, as it gave those in attendance the chance to sing along to a song they are more familiar with and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

Prentice introduced each song, with the audience letting out the odd cheer once again, with the band returning to the ‘Cut the Chord’ material, this time with ‘Take It from the Skies’ and rounding off with the first single taken from the record, ‘The Middle’. Both tracks received the biggest reception of the new material, with two tracks remaining for the crowd to join in once again. Stand-alone single ‘Stranger’ was a welcomed addition to the set, right before fan favourite ‘Retrospect’ concluded VISTAS’ return to Nottingham and a perfect warm-up ahead of their Rescue Rooms show taking place in October.

The band made their way over to the signing area of the venue, taking time with their fans to chat, sign records and pose for photos before making the trip down south to do it all again in Banquet Records.
