Since their reunion back in 2022, Coventry indie trio THE ENEMY‘s demand for new music has been at the forefront of their return. Now three years on, the band have given fans a glimpse of what is to come as they prepare for the release of their fifth record ‘Social Disguises‘ next year.
As a sold out Foundry main room awaited the presence of the Midlands threesome, the room turned to darkness and was met with a huge roar that shook the venue to its core. THE ENEMY made their way on to the stage, and in typical fashion, kicked off their set with the vicious ‘Aggro‘ to get the place bouncing. Keeping up the energy with ‘Away from Here‘, the Sheffield crowd belted out the chorus as loud as they possibly could before returning to the aggressive ‘Pressure’ and ‘Had Enough‘.
As the new album edges closer every day, the trio treated the capacity crowd to a glimpse of what the record entails. The first track being ‘Not Going Your Way‘, a much more upbeat and joyous anthem compared to the gritty sound THE ENEMY usually throw out. After a very warm reception for the bands first piece of material in ten years, they went back to their debut with the title track ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns‘ to give the crowd something to join in with once again. As with every show of theirs, this song has everyone belting out the lyrics, jumping around and clapping along. It is arguably one of the biggest indie anthems of the 00’s.
After ‘You’re Not Alone‘ followed, THE ENEMY performed another new song, this time it was ‘Trouble’. Again, a much more upbeat sounding track, had the crowd hooked with its catchy chorus just in time to bring things back to normality with ‘Technodanceaphobic‘ and ‘40 Days and 40 Nights‘ before exiting the stage for what felt like a very short set. The trio returned to the stage though, with seven tracks still to spoil Sheffield with. The almighty ‘Be Somebody‘ picked up the pace once again, with ‘Gimme the Sign‘ blending into ‘Saturday‘ to keep the place bouncing right into the more sombre ‘Happy Birthday Jane‘, as the sell out crowd swayed from side to side. ‘No Time for Tears‘ set up the grand finale of ‘This Song‘, and with every crowd that greets THE ENEMY, the outro was further extended from the crowd, singing the lyrics over and over again as the band stepped away from the stage and completing their triumphant return to the steel city once again.
