We sat down with Myke Terry, vocalist of LA metalcore outfit Volumes to chat about the bands’ fifth record ‘Mirror Touch’, from the recording and writing process, to Myke’s favourite tracks, plus, their plans for 2026 with new material behind them.
—
What has the reception been like for ‘Mirror Touch’ since its release?
Myke: It has been overwhelmingly positive so far, man. It’s been great. Honestly, I am a little bit blown away by the love we’ve been getting because it has been so long since we put out music. There is always that thing: do people still care? So it’s really cool to see that people have reached out and shown it some love.
–
How does ‘Mirror Touch’ differ from ‘Happier?’ in your eyes?
Myke: I feel like this album hits all of the marks that we didn’t hit with ‘Happier?’. That is not to say that ‘Happier?’ wasn’t a great album or that we’re not proud of it. There were some shortcuts we took that I feel we should have concentrated more on, but we were able to do that on ‘Mirror Touch’. A part of it was because it was during Covid time, so the playing field was a lot different then. So it’s cool to feel like we got this one done right.
–
Did the writing process change for ‘Mirror Touch’ compared to previous albums?
Myke: The ability of us getting in a room together to write and record again which we weren’t able to do on ‘Happier?’. A lot of those sessions were done over Zoom. It has been nice to have that intimacy level in the studio together again.
–
How was the album structured behind the scenes?
Myke: Everyone brings a little bit to the table. Raad and Daniel wrote all of the music, then me, Michael Barr and Daniel got in a room together and just started rocking it out.
–
Volumes’ has evolved over time. How important is that to you?
Myke: I think it’s key. You don’t ever really want to stay in the same place, you know? I feel like, being able to evolve, try new things but remain true to your roots is what being in a band is all about. I feel if you do the same thing over and over again you aren’t giving yourself a chance to grow. Where is the fun in that? I like to see a band grow and try new things. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. That’s the beauty of it and how life in general works.
–
When the album was ready to release, how did you feel?
Myke: Really excited, man. When we turned the album in, I had already listened to it a thousand times so at that point, it was already ingrained in me. I was still excited but I was ready for the fans to experience it for the first time too. That’s where the fun part comes in for me.
–
Do you have any favourite songs from ‘Mirror Touch’?
Myke: ‘Suffer On’ for sure. That’s an ass beater. That is what Volumes does best. We are able to bring the heavy and that song showcases it the most. Honestly, I want to play them all. I feel like we can play every one live, which we weren’t able to do with ‘Happier?’.
–
With songs like ‘California’ being a more mellow sounding track compared to the rest, did you bring in any new influences for this record?
Myke: Lots of different music, different genres, just exploring different stuff. We don’t just listen to metal. All the guys listen to crazy stuff from punk to ska to shoegaze to black metal. We are all over the place so we try to take elements from all of the stuff we listen to because that is what shapes our day to day.
–
With ‘Suffer On’ being a favourite of yours, what made the decision to bring Black Sheep Wall on board for the track?
Myke: Those guys are our homies, man. We’re long time friends and I have been a fan for a long time. Michael Barr grew up with the singers, past and present and with the band in general. The situation presented itself. We had a song that we were working on and they agreed to do it. It was one of the most fun experiences of the recording process when they were tracking their vocal parts. We were all hanging out as friends and getting to see them rip it and it all come together.

It has been almost three years since Volumes last performed in the UK. Can we expect a return for 2026?
Myke: I sure hope so, man. The last time we played there was for the Radar Festival and we played a London headline too. That weekend was one of my most fun experiences I’ve had in the UK. Shout out to those guys, we’d love to come back.
–
What message do you have for the fans, whether they have come on board recently or stuck by the band even before you joined?
Myke: Thank you. Honestly this has been an insane ride. If you are a Volumes fan, you are just as crazy as we are. I appreciate you guys, it has been wild. Because we have evolved, to the fans who have stuck by us, we really do appreciate it. We feel that love, man. We read all the comments and messages, it keeps us going.
–
What can we expect from Volumes in 2026?
Myke: We do have some songs that didn’t make the album. I would love to get them out if we can make it happen. We do have the material there, so there is a chance we’ll see it again.
