Hastings’ beloved punk-beat band drop their latest album ‘Fearless Nature’, marking as a creative turning point shaped by recent dynamic-changes that have occurred within the group, following the departure of guitarist Ben Beetham and drummer George Macdonald last year.
Fans can expect a more raw and reflective sound compared to their earlier work, which leaned into more high-energy, punk anthems and outward facing political commentary. Fearless Nature signals a reformation of Kapichi’s creative direction, presenting personal reflection and emotional growth.
‘Headright’, ‘Patience’ and ‘Worst Kept Secret’ emphasise this narrative,; delving into themes of self-doubt, resilience and fear through sharp lyricism, set against punk-infused indie melodies. The album feels confrontational and vulnerable, a new angle for their raw sound.
There are key influences throughout the album, notably from IDLES, Richard Ashscroft/The Verve and UNKLE; with the use of emotional weight, dark tension and intensity, woven together with a melodic introspection, Kapichi have created tracks that feel expansive, but still with some bite.
Each track carries its own distinctive creative flare, making the record an engaging listen from start to finish. While the influences are evident upon first listen; Kid Kapichi have never lost their independent identity, which is what makes them stand out within the scene. They’ve mastered the art of moulding the indie-punk-beat sound to reflect where they are currently, both emotionally and creatively whilst continuing to evolve.
