Ahead of the release of their new single ‘One On One’, we sat down with Isabel and Jacon Brown, the sibling pairing fronting The Tivolis to chat about how the new song came about, what they have in the works for 2026 and spotlighting some bands that they are following closely.

Your new single ‘One On One’ is set for release. How excited are you to get it out there?

Isabel: We wrote it in the summer and it was only shown to the band the day before our headline show at Corporation. So it was a pretty quick one but we all loved it straight away and played it through all the gigs in the summer. We really love playing it and it has a different energy to the songs we’ve got already, a sort of a festival vibe.

Jacob: It is one of those things where we have so many original ideas now, things begin to get shelved. Whereas this one got thrown straight into the set list and I think that is kind of a testament as to how much we like it. Hopefully it kicks on.

Did the writing process change at all for ‘One on One’ to how you usually write songs, given such a quick turnaround?

Jacob: Some of the songs we write together as a band and then some we write completely separately. This one in particular was done by Isabel.

Isabel: I think it was about 1am one night, sat in my room playing guitar and fleshed out the whole song in about an hour. I did a little voice recording while trying to keep it down and avoid waking anyone up. The next rehearsal we had I showed it to the band and everyone started playing along to it.

Jacob: It’s always really productive and it always ends with a great end product. Because we are brother and sister, there is always bickering. We sometimes want different things but we do get on most of the time.

Isabel: Most of the time I’d say it’s Jake coming up with a big riff or a chord progression and then I’ll play about with melody and lyrics and work it out together. Bailey who is our bassist he’ll come in with a whole song, with parts written too so a big credit to Bailey.

Do you feel the new single will be received differently once it’s released compared to those who have heard it in the live setting?

Jacob: That is kind of what we are hoping with the tour really. Pretty much all of the dates are around 10 days after the single is released so we’re hoping people will listen to it, enjoy it and come out to the shows and sing along. Usually what we’ll do is have a release gig, where we release the single on the day of the gig. It has worked to create a bit of momentum but we’ve gone for a different approach this time.

Now we are in the new year, how do you view your 2025 as a band?

Jacob: It’s been the first year where we’ve had a full year of gigging. 2024 was our first one playing gigs in proper venues. We played The Leadmill just before it closed. We played The Foundry which was our biggest ticketed gig. We played in Manchester, Tramlines Fringe and selling out Corporation were all big moments. It has been a really productive year and we are hoping to build on it now and get some cool festival slots. Our aim for this year is to expose our music to as many people as possible.

Do you already have plans for new music to be released soon after ‘One On One’?

Jacob: We have already got a song sorted. We are looking to release it around April time. I personally am really excited to release it. We haven’t played it live before but we will be soon which is also exciting. We are going for a different sound to what we have put out before.

Isabel: The next couple of songs will definitely connect more with festival crowds I feel.

Aside from new music and potential festival slots, is there anything else we can expect from The Tivolis for 2026?

Jacob: A lot of gigging. We’ve got a few singles lined up so we may look at doing an EP at some point. I don’t want to promise anything. We’ve got so many songs shelved that we don’t feel could be singles.

Isabel: We don’t want to throw those songs away though.

Jacob: Trying to keep the momentum going as much as possible as well.

Are there any bands on your radar that you feel people should be checking out?

Jacob: There are quite a few. I am really good friends with Sundress.

Isabel: They have a great sound.

Jacob: They played the main stage at Tramlines last year, they’re amazing. They are so professional and cool. Kanukai have a really interesting sound too. We played with them at Yellow Arch.

Isabel: We really enjoyed playing with Hunny Buzz as well.

Jacob: He’s much bigger than us but we are supporting him in February and we played with him at Sponge Fest back in the summer, that’s Alex Spencer. His music is great, really cool. They’d be the ones really.

The support slot with Alex Spencer is only a few weeks away now. How excited are you to join the line-up for that?

Jacob: It’s going to be absolutely brilliant. We had a great chat with him when we last played together and he’s a lovely guy. We’re really looking forward to playing that gig because I feel his audience will enjoy our music.

Isabel: We do listen to his music as well so we’re fans of his anyway.
