Kula Shaker return with their eighth studio album, ‘Wormslayer’, doubling down on their psychedelic rock roots and the mysticism that has defined their sound. The record channels the band’s long-standing fascination with poetic songwriting, unfolding as a listen that feels both familiar and newly restless. ‘Wormslayer’ sticks closely to the band’s established style while injecting just enough spark to make it feel fresh, turning recognition into something exciting.

The album opens with ‘Lucky Number’,  a fun, dance-ready indie rock groove that feels made for crowded bars and late nights. Hypnotic guitar riffs carry the track as repetition does much of the work, locking in the rhythm and drawing the listener into the music. Its looping structure makes it a perfect opener, setting the mood from the first note with energy and ease.

If ‘Lucky Number’ eases listeners onto the dance floor, ‘Good Money’ pushes the album into slightly more unhinged territory. The lead single begins with a deliberately distorted sound that grabs attention before settling into a catchy, playful beat and bassline. A repeating “la-la-la” hook cuts through the mix, fun without ever feeling obvious, using repetition to blur the line between simple and strangely addictive. The track highlights the album’s talent for transforming straightforward ideas into something captivating.

The record drifts into atmospheric ballads, but ‘Shaunie’ is where it truly comes alive. Folk-tinged guitar lines nod to classic Zeppelin while establishing the band’s own comprehensive vibe. It’s the kind of track that makes the album impossible to ignore. ‘Day For Night’ slows the pace to a whisper, a stripped-back lullaby where every note and vocal feels unguarded. Similar to‘Be Merciful’, it pauses the album’s momentum, offering a reflective pocket of calm that makes the surrounding tracks hit harder.

At the center of the album is the title track, ‘Wormslayer.’ Heavy, riff-driven and deliberate, it explores struggle, transformation, and inner conflict. The layered textures evoke reflection and self-awareness, turning the track into a journey of transcendence delivered as much through sound as through words. The record closes with ‘Dust Beneath Our Feet’, a cinematic finale that encapsulates the band’s essence. Textured and dreamy storytelling throughout the album makes WormSlayer feel carefully crafted yet endlessly engaging, marking Kula Shaker as one of the UK’s most compelling acts.
