Having played Sheffield and Doncaster over the years in The View, frontman Kyle Falconer made his Mexborough debut with a stripped back performance of solo material and The View’s hits alongside three very fitting support acts.

Opening the show was Bolton upon Dearne’s Daz Cadwallander, bringing a set filled with heartfelt songs and not afraid to open up on the meaning behind them. Daz‘s performance was welcomed by an already busy room, engaged throughout the set and a great way to start off the evening.

Next up was County Durham artist Frankie Dobson. Suited to the nights acoustic format, another stripped back elegant display came from the North Eastern youngster. Unreleased track ‘Devil Man‘ was a real treat for the Mexborough crowd, as they got an early glimpse into Dobson‘s upcoming material. ‘Candy‘ served as the main hightlight of the set though, as the audience applauded after each song with delight.

The final support of the night came from Wolverhampton’s Jack Fletcher. Accompanied by Leon Harrison and Chris Eardley, the more collaborative sound was certainly a welcomed change of pace. Fletcher churned out original material such as ‘Lonely Room‘ to give the crowd the final warm-up ahead of the headline act. Fletcher is no stranger to South Yorkshire, and took this stripped back performance like he does with any show, with pride and grit.

Kyle Falconer stepped on to the stage with a loud cheer from the seated crowd. Gently easing into the set with ‘Grace’, it encouraged those in attendance to join in. Falconer still put in just as much effort as he does with he usually does with the band behind him, but with the more stripped back sound, his voice took over in a very pleasant way.

Face for the Radio’ sounds almost identical as the band version live, showing that despite its age, still feels as fresh as ever. A surprise cover of Oasis’ ‘Songbird’ followed next alongside ‘Go Your Own Way’, both received very positively from the Mexborough crowd. Falconer then joked of not hearing or knowing where Mexborough actually was, but still voicing his pleasure of being there was cheered from a few that were seated. Continuing with his set, solo material ‘Tacky Tattoo’ and ‘Rebecca’ eased into the grand finale of ‘Same Jeans’ which of course, had everyone singing along as Kyle bowed out of his debut appearance on the Meccie Riveria.
