Indie rock band Kaiser Chiefs brought the anniversary of Employment to the Connexin Live in Hull and the Leeds lads definitely brought the energy.
Starting the night were Manchester band Corella who I’ve now seen countless times and will probably continue to do so, They amaze every time and get better with every show, The crowd seemed like a hard please, but the lively energy of Corella got some of them dancing and singing along. With their new album coming out later this year a tour of this size can only help grow their fan base and sell more records.
If you’re sleeping on Corella it’s definitely time to wake up. These lads are only going to get bigger and better and soon you won’t be seeing them in intimate venues.
Now for our headline act, The absolute legendary Kaiser Chiefs, with such a successful career, The Yorkshire lads have released their fair share of bangers, but ‘Employment’ is what we are here to enjoy and that album holds such a special place in my heart. First hearing it when I was probably around 10/11 years old and then getting to see them a few years later at MEN Manchester, this band have remained a constant in what I listen to regularly.
Opening the night with ‘Everyday I love You Less and Less’ ‘I Predict A Riot’ and ‘Modern Way’ the crowd were immediately taken back to the mid 2000 and the room erupted with life and voice. Ricky forever being a showman made sure it was a spectacle as he controlled the stage and the crowd.
There aren’t too many albums I could listen to front to back and not get bored but this is definitely one of those albums no matter how many times you hear it, it stays just as amazing as first time round and getting to see it in full live was a moment to remember.
It’s easy to see how they’ve stayed a constant relevance through their long career.
As the night gets closer to the end we get a cover of ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ by the Ramones followed by absolute classics like ‘Never Miss A Beat’ ‘Ruby’ and ending with ‘The Angry Mob’ the Kaiser Chiefs leave everything out on the stage and fans just can’t seem to get enough. The room is beaming with life still and everyone just has massive smiles on their faces.
The Kaiser Chiefs must have many moments of bliss witnessing things like this, but it’s super refreshing to witness a show that leaves so many people leaving in that manner. This certainly won’t be the last time I catch them and I’m sure they’ll be just as great.
