Coming to the end of an epic tour for their debut album ‘Victim of a Casual Thing’, The Clause have arrived in Cardiff. Having seen them before, I was counting down the days until this gig. Their high energy and addictive atmospheres pull you back to their concerts. Plus, they always know how to pick their support acts.
The Globe is one of Cardiff’s many independent venues, located just outside of the city centre. On Albany Road it is situated in between lots of culture with plenty to occupy your time pre-gig. As it is slightly out of the way, I feel as this is a venue for the locals, many people arrived at the venue via taxi or car. The parking situation was a bit tricky as the venue didn’t have anywhere for attendees and there wasn’t anywhere close by either.
The first opener of the night was Redwood City, a South-Wales based alternative/indie band. I was absolutely blown away by these guys, a total unheard gem. With an amazing voice and a strong composition, this band has amazing potential to be something big. I would have been happy to have them on for the rest of the night with how enjoyable their performance was. I’d recommend this band to fans of Overpass and The Pavilion as it has a similar vibe but with their own distinctive sound. They have just signed to 250 Records. I hope that we get some new music on streaming services soon. My favourite song of their set was their opening number ‘Boy’, I need this immediately. I am so excited for the future of this band and what’s to come. Everyone knows that Wales produces top indie bands such as Stereophonics and Catfish and the Bottlemen, I think that Redwood City could very well join them in that hall of fame.

The second act of the night was Keyside. It has been an exciting past year for this band having made quite a name for themselves playing the Introducing…’ stage at BBC Radio1 weekend and opening for our favorite indie bands as well as their own tour in late 2025. I’d recommend this band to fans of The Kooks or The Killers having a familiar vibe to their music with that slight nostalgia for the 00’s era of indie music. My song of their set was their unreleased tune ‘Lemon and Lime’ which should be coming out soon. This band was able to show their skills perfectly, warming up the crowd for the main event. Keyside got everyone moving, heads were bopping and hips were swaying. Closing the set out on a high note, they were able to keep the crowd ready for what was to come. I would definitely recommend putting this band on your list to see.

Kicking off their set with ‘Nothings As It Seems’, The Clause captured the crowd’s attention instantly. Starting with such a high energy number got the crowd moving with the band who were giving every ounce they had to their performance. A smooth transition to ‘Tell Me What You Want’ a song that is the epitome of swagger made it feel like the entire crowd was on springs with how much they were living for the moment. They allowed us to catch our breaths during ‘Exception’ but it didn’t stop the build of energy, people got on shoulders and had the time of their lives. From then on it was just mosh central the floodgates had been opened for people to go wild and have a great time. They closed the set with ‘In my element’ a song with such a loaded energy that keeps you going even when the concert is over. Pearce has mastered the art of showman-ship, knowing exactly what to give the audience and when is the reason I and many others return to their gigs. Their whole performance just oozed badass, not caring about opinions just laying it all out for you to witness. The band had great movement however I was terrified Jonny Fyffe was going to fall on me with how close he came to the edge of the stage.
