Following the announcement of their upcoming fifth studio album, Australian trio DMA’S returned to the UK for the final portion of their ‘Hills End‘ 10 year anniversary shows before truly heading into a new era for the band. A sold out Rock City kicked things off for the UK regulars as the perfect warm-up ahead of their Neighbourhood Weekender set.
Having performed the record in its entirety during their extensive run back in February, those in attendance were more than aware of what to expect, but this didn’t take away the excitement at all. DMA’S stepped out on to the stage to a roaring cheer from the Nottingham crowd, a venue they are very familiar with. Following the ‘Hills End‘ track listing in order, ‘Timeless‘ kicked things off. The entire room were up from it from the get go and with fan favourite ‘Lay Down‘ following immediately, the typical rowdy audience that flock to a DMA’S show no matter where in the UK were out in full force. The tempo continued into ‘Delete‘, who still stands the test of time a decade on, as it remains a staple in the bands’ setlist to this day .
As the album tracks came flourishing through, ‘Step Up the Morphine‘ was another that had the whole room singing along. Frontman Tommy O’Dell relished the welcomed reception that the band are always accustomed to with each visit. Johnny Took smiled throughout the entirely of the night, which plays a huge part in the positivity the band bring with their live shows while Matt Mason unleashes elegant riffs and catchy guitar hooks that continue to wow crowds with every performance. Rounding off the ‘Hills End’ celebrations with ‘The Switch‘ and ‘Play It Out‘, DMA’S exited the stage, with an encore looming and three records, two EP’s and new material under their belt, the latter portion of the stage was a mystery yet to be revealed.
Returning to the Rock City stage once again, the band treated the capacity crowd to the live debut of their new single ‘Heatin Park‘. Clearly already a firm favourite amongst their fanbase, the loud reception barrelled into ‘Tape Deck Sick‘ and the timeless ‘Silver‘, the latter is arguably the band’s biggest hit to date and one that is guaranteed to have en entire festival field singing along. That was no different for Rock City. The attendees made sure to give it their all and they didn’t disappoint. O’Dell applauded the crowds efforts as then ‘My Baby’s Place‘ followed along with the guitar shredding ‘Olympia‘ and finally ‘Feels Like 37‘ to cap off an impressive DMA’S show once again in Nottingham, and a fitting close to their ten year celebrations of ‘Hills End‘ while their self-titled release is on the horizon in just a few months time.
