To celebrate the release of their self-titled fifth record, Sydney three-piece DMA’S returned to the UK for a string of intimate stripped back shows in support of the record. Having done this previously for the ‘How Many Dreams?’ campaign, the band gave fans the new material its true form and a nod to their roots from how they originally performed over a decade ago.

With two shows at Bristol’s Rough Trade playing host to the final dates of the acoustic run, fans flocked on the Bank Holiday Monday for the early show, ready to delve into the self-titled material live for the first time. Mason, Tommy and Johnny quietly stepped out onto the tiny stage, with a loud cheer from the capacity Bristol crowd welcoming the Aussies back to the city. As Johnny and Tommy sat down to ease into the set, Mason stayed stood as ‘Killing Time’ softly began. With a select few joining in for the opener, it was fan favourite ‘The Glow’ which had the compact room singing along. A loud reception is exactly what DMA’S thrive on, no matter the setting and this show was no different. Dipping in and out of previous material and their new tracks, ‘Heatin Park’ and ‘My Baby’s Place’ have quickly become crowd pleasers judging from the joint efforts from everyone in the room, but of course it was no match for ‘Silver’ which was nestled between the two.

‘Emailz’ and ‘Hurracane’ also featured from the self-titles release, with the latter getting the loudest singalong of the two before classic DMA’S tracks ‘Lay Down’ and ‘Step Up the Morphine’ came around before two final tracks from the new record were delivered. Took’s personal favourite ‘Windows’ concluded the fifth album material, in which he thanked the crowd for supporting the band no matter at what stage and for being apart of the band’s second UK Top 10 record. A loud cheer and applause from the audience set up for one more singalong in the form of ‘Feels Like 37’, the usual set closer from the Aussies, and it was delivered beautifully in its stripped back format as the perfect ending to the UK acoustic tour.
