On a day when England were taking on Argentina in a World Cup semi-final, anticipation was high, not just for the football but for pop music’s newest boyband. While many were fixated on the match hundreds of devoted fans packed into Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun Hall to see December 10 prove exactly why they are one of the most exciting new names in modern music. 

A support act was not needed to warm up the crowd as from the moment doors opened the room was overflowing with excitement. Fuelled by a sea of teenage girls whose energy was reminiscent of One Direction’s early days back in 2011. 

The Simon Cowell created group formed the Cowell’s Netflix TV Talent Show ‘The Next Act’ which set out to find the next One Direction. Fresh from the release of their debut EP ‘On Your Side’ which has now debuted at number 5 on the Official Albums Chart. They have also navigated the temporary departure of Danny Bretherton but if there was any uncertainty surrounding them it was certainly squashed during Wednesday night’s show. 

As pulsing blue lights flooded the stage December 10 emerged to deafening screams before launching into their signature cover of NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’ which they first debuted on the Netflix show which they were formed on. The setlist featured an array of covers such as ‘Dancing in The Dark’ and Sombr’s ‘Homewrecker’ with the band putting a fresh spin on each track and demonstrating a sense of confidence beyond their years. 

Throughout the night the bands harmonies were astonishingly tight sounding as though they had spent years performing together despite having been together less than 12 months. Their chemistry on stage was equally as impressive with each member bouncing off each other demonstrating a genuine friendship which goes far beyond just being bandmates. 

Original songs recieved a roaring reaction from the crowd with their song ‘Angel’ inviting a fan up on stage for a moment where they serenade the young fan in one of the night’s most heartwarming moments, leaving her visibly beaming from ear to ear.

The loudest singalong of the evening though had to be ‘Run My Way’, the band’s debut single. Every lyric was screamed back with such force that it wouldn’t have been surprising if the parents outside had heard every word. 

The show closed with their latest single ‘Infinity 123’ complete with tight choreography, confident stage presence and one final explosion of energy from both the band and audience. 

The show also carried extra significance for the band as it was Hendrik Christofferson’s hometown show. Hailing from nearby Walsall, the reception he received felt especially heartfelt adding another layer to an already memorable performance. 

Despite having not even been together for a year, December 10 already possesses the charisma and fan connection of far more established acts. Whether they are performing with 6 or 7 members they’ve built a fiercely loyal fan base that is devoted to everything they do. If this performance in Wolverhampton is anything to go by December 10 are here for the long run and are far more than a manufactured pop boyband.
